the beginning…
I have been on the web since my preteens during y2k. I’ve shared bits of myself on the internet since it was a thing. And I’ve freakin’ gorged on other people’s bits — strangers, family, friends, past lovers, celebrities, and all the capitalist entities.
I’m fucking sick of consuming so much non-consensual content!
It puts me into a self conscious trap where I can’t fully feel the freedom of my creativity. Don’t even get me started on comparison. If I’m constantly concerned about how I’m being perceived, then my creativity is for others and not for me. I want to create for me and only me. Other people can watch though ;)

What lead me here was intuition. I listened to April’s podcast That’s What Spirit Said and she mentioned a podcast called Off the Grid which led me to the artist Kening Zhu. I relate so much to her philosophies about being an artist on the internet — her house on the web kenningzhu.com is the inspiration for this experiment.

I am ready to be in conversation with my creative energy, exclusively, intimately and consistently. Consistent is a trigger word for my adhd brain, but the freedom I am allowing myself in this space to play and imagine and work through things and solve things and question things and do whatever the fuck I want — that is making me boil with excitement to keep showing up. And I can show up exactly as I am without any external attachments. I can contradict myself. I can be a totally different person than I was yesterday. I can make all the necessary mistakes and failures with reckless abandon. Sounds fun as hell!

My intention for groovetoast.com is for it to be a constantly growing and changing art house. My art house on the web. I will continually add my creations and evolve the experience of this website. An evolving exploration of my creative process and identity — constantly in flux and expanding.

This is a creative practice.
No performance.
No strategy.
No obligation.
No algorithm.
Just pure limitless expression.

This is the art that I would make even if no one would ever see it.
